Solar battery (home storage)

A home storage battery that banks daytime solar for use at night or during outages — essential under net-billing tariffs like NEM 3.0.

A solar battery (such as a Tesla Powerwall or Enphase IQ Battery) stores excess daytime generation so you can use your own solar after sundown instead of buying grid power. Typical residential capacity runs 10–20 kWh.

Batteries became near-essential in net-billing states. Under NEM 3.0, exported solar is credited at only ~25% of retail, so storing generation and self-consuming it at night is worth far more than sending it to the grid. Storage also provides backup during outages.
